Food recall: Lemon Meringue Cake causes allergy fears across the nation – check item


The high-end supermarket chain, Booths, has issued a recall warning after discovering undeclared allergens in one product. Those who have been shopping in stores have been urged to check their cupboards for Booths Lemon Meringue Cake. It was found to have almonds (nuts) in the cake that are not mentioned on the label.

“Due to a packaging error, some products contain Bakewell Cake instead of Lemon Meringue Cake.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to nuts.”

All affected product have a use by date of 3 February 2020.

The FSA website added: “This product contains almonds (nuts) making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to nuts.”

The advice provided by the FSA: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to nuts, do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.

No other products by Booths is known to be affected.

The Food Standard Agency have issued several product recalls in January 2020, including for the popular crisps brand, Doritos.

Doritos Tangy Cheese crisps, which are sold in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, and other big-chain supermarkets, are currently being recalled by Walkers Snack Foods because of undeclared allergens found to be contained in the product.

The FSA stated: “Walkers Snack Foods is recalling Doritos Tangy Cheese as a precautionary measure because it contains soya which is not accurately declared on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to soya.”

A statement on the FSA website reads: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to soya, do not eat it.”

The batch codes affected include 06 06 20 GBC 205 364, 06 06 20 GBC 205 363, 06 06 20 GBC 203 364, 06 06 20 GBC 203 363,06 06 20 GBC 202 364 and 06 06 20 GBC 202 363.

The affected packs are 180g in size and have a best before the date of June 6, 2020.
